Everything creative is born from the pen. Dive in and get ready for 6 classes that will make you ready to make this a reality!

You will learn technical and practical techniques, get acquainted with literatures finest and break those walls down. See the schedule below to learn more about the syllabus!

PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE ON REFUNDS DUE TO THE CLASS BEING PUSHED AND NOT BEING CANCELLED. However, you can replace this class with a another workshop.

Parking will be at the Courtyard by Marriott, located at 200 SE 2nd Street, Miami, FL, 33131. This is a SELF-PARK garage. Please bring your ticket to the studio for discount validation.

CLASSES:

DAY 1 - August 31st

Plot begins with character:

-What is a story? Protagonist’s goal and conflict. Three Act Structure.

Recommended to read:

The Hero’s Journey by Joseph Campbell

Save the Cat by Blake Snyder

DAY 2 - September 7th

Character:

-Building three-dimensional characters in film.

-Goal, personal motivation and dilemma.

DAY 3 - September 14th

Dialogue:

-Your secret weapon = subtext.

-Dialogue tips and tricks. How to avoid exposition (info dump)

DAY 4 - September 21st

Setup and rising action:

-Critique first 5 pages.

DAY 5 - September 28th

Rising action and confrontation:

-Pages 1-10

DAY 6 - Octubre 5th

Final critiques:

-Falling action and resolution.

-Pages 1-15

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR:

Crissa-Jean Chappell was born in Miami and now lives in Brooklyn, New York. Her debut young adult novel, TOTAL CONSTANT ORDER (HarperTeen) is a NYPL Book For The Teen Age and a VOYA Perfect Ten. Chappell’s second novel, NARC (Flux Books) is currently optioned for film. MORE THAN GOOD ENOUGH (Flux Books) is a Florida Book Awards medalist, which Kirkus calls, "compelling and emotionally nuanced." Chappell's newest YA novel is SNOWBIRDS (Simon Pulse, 2017). She holds a PhD and MFA from the University of Miami and has taught creative writing and cinema studies for over fifteen years. When she misses South Florida, she talks to the parrots in Green-Wood Cemetery.
