Join us for a live recording of the podcast with Almudena Toral a thought leader in digital journalism. In this intimate conversation, we'll explore Almudena's international multimedia reporting and her goals as the new Creative Visual Manager at Univision. We will also journey into her background, her lightbulb moments and turning points, her philosophies, and what makes her tick. Elaine McMillion Sheldon is a Peabody award-winning documentary maker, visual journalist and media artist who explores themes of identity, roots and change. Sheldon’s film and interactive work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, from the NYFF to IDFA.  She is the co-creator of She Does, a bi-weekly audio documentary series that documents creative women’s journeys. In 2013, she released HOLLOW an interactive documentary that examines the future of rural America through the eyes and voices of Appalachians. Hollow received a 2013 Peabody, 2014 Emmy nomination and 3rd Prize in the World Press Photo Multimedia Awards. Sheldon is a 2016 Chicken & Egg Breakthrough Filmmaker Awardee, a 2013 Future of Storytelling Fellow, named one of the "25 New Faces of Independent Film" in 2013 by Filmmaker Magazine and one of "50 People Changing The South" in 2015 by Southern Living Magazine. She works across platforms and mediums—film, photo, audio, interactive media—to create storytelling experiences.


Sarah Ginsburg is a documentarian and story-seeker based in Boston. She directs, shoots and edits short and feature-length documentaries about the often overlooked nuances, places and people in daily life. Ginsburg is the co-director of photography and co-editor of the upcoming feature documentary, Best and Most Beautiful Things. She shot and edited content for the interactive doc, Wander, Wonder, Wilderness, and edited ten intimate vignettes for Hollow, the Peabody award-winning and Emmy-nominated interactive documentary about life in Appalachia. Through Hollow, she met Elaine Sheldon, and together they created She Does podcast, a series of audio portraits of women making waves in media. Ginsburg holds a BA in film production from Emerson College and his originally from Columbia, Missouri.

Almudena Toral

Almudena Toral is a thought leader in digital journalism. She is an award-winning Spanish visual journalist and filmmaker based in New York. Alumudena was appointed the Creative Visual Manager of Univision news in 2015. Her work has been published by The New York Times, TIME, The Guardian, AlJazeera, VICE, Huffington Post, Marie Claire, El País, Canal+ and other outlets. She currently teaches video storytelling at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, besides pursuing her own projects worldwide. Prior to freelancing, Almudena worked at The New York Times and TIME.


Miami Native, Inez Barlatier is a multi-faceted performing artist of Alkebu-Lan (African) descent by way of her Haitian heritage. Since the age of 12, Inez has been developing her work as a singer-songwriter, rhythm guitarist, recording artist, percussionist, folkloric dancer, actress and a hand drum instructor. She has performed internationally in the United States, Haiti, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Cuba with Kazoots, Jan Sebon & Kazak International, FUNDarte, Venus Rising: Women's Drum & Dance Ensemble, Tom Tom magazine and One Drum. Her music pays homage to her heritage with vocal delivery resembling Tracey Chapman and Adele.
