We are 10 high-school students from Miami collaborating to raise awareness about the threat posed by sea-level rise in Florida. On the last Sunday of every month, we meet at the Miami Science Museum and discuss our projects. We are currently working on a script for a documentary that will tell our story and describe our projects. We hope to screen this documentary in the 2016 FilmGate Interactive Creative Conference.
Learn Do Share (LDS) is a grassroots innovation engine; a combination of events, labs and peer production. We are a community for open collaboration, design fiction and social innovation. Partner projects include: Caine’s Arcade, My Sky Is Falling, and The BUKE.
Learn Do Share went to Miami for the first time on February 6-8, 2015 to produce a collaboration with FilmGate Miami during the 2015 FilmGate Interactive Creative Conference. The three words LEARN, DO and SHARE embody the philosophy: learn from everyone, do by prototyping, share what we learn. This special edition of Learn Do Share featured a two-day lab with thirty high-school teens, aged 14 to 19, to prototype, design and storyboard their wish for the future. The issue at hand was the effect of rising sea levels and the future of the region in the wake of this growing problem.
Youth from across the area came together and worked towards manifesting a tangible and realistic framework for design solutions that can be implemented and brought back to their local communities. The Learn Do Share lab at the FilmGate Interactive conference was led by university professor and immersive media story architect Lance Weiler, immersive media producer Magalis Martinez and local mentors.
