The lionfish presents a serious threat to Florida's marine life. They have overtaken the ocean, destroying coral reef and fish populations in their wake. Although the lionfish are beautiful and sell for as much as $200 per fish in New York City as pets, they are detrimental to the native ecosystem. On top of that, they are hard to catch. Luckily, they are also delicious.
FilmGate Interactive is proud to announce our first CUISINE AGAINST INVASIVE SPECIES DINNER, designed to inform citizens about Florida's fragile ecosystem with a screening, curated feast and a pairing of craft beers by local brewery Concrete Beach. The Lionfish Dinner, freshly caught by Islamorada Dive Center owner Eric Billips and his crew, will be accompanied by berries, fruit and vegetables of invasive species, sourced out by local forager Tiffany Noé.
Humans are the only natural predators for the lionfish and we invite you to help the ecosystem one bite at a time!
