TROPICULT PRESENTS ‘PHANTASMAL ENCOUNTERS IN REAL TIME’ [PERT]

PERT is a two person exhbition featuring physically-interactive, digitally-made artworks by Joe Winograd and Michael Powell.
Tropicult will explore ways we can physically interact with digital artworks within the Tech Playground, showcasing works by Michael Powell (STL, Studio Powell) and Joe Winograd (NYC, GIFPOP), two artists working to challenge the rigid constructs of materiality, physical boundaries, and death.

The exhibited artworks present surreal and unexpected encounters through either virtual simulations or physical implications. Winograd (http://joewinograd.tumblr.com/) is interested in the physical presence of internet art and brings his GIFS to life through tangible lenticular sculptures; Powell (http://studiopowell.net/) is interested in increasing interactivity in the digital sphere and will present The Visit, an interactive canvas where the viewer can live-paint with Pablo Picasso, visiting: TROPICULT.com/canvas

JOHN LENNON: THE BERMUDA TAPES

An interactive Album App that tells the story of John Lennon’s life changing journey, sailing through a mid-Atlantic storm to Bermuda in June 1980.

The Bermuda Tapes allows users to literally sail to Bermuda, seeing the journey and the creative re-discovery that it triggered through Lennon’s eyes and hearing the very early demo recordings he made while in Bermuda. The app album allows users to explore the very intimate artistic and collaborative process Lennon had with Yoko Ono, working with the early songs and finally leading to the release of his final recording, Double Fantasy: A Heart Play.

THE HELHEIM EXPERIENCE

(dis)locate - sound installation

This observational, interactive exhibit explores our relationship with media and challenges how we consume content in a group setting. It is a collaboration between Miami participants of the Sound for the New Media Frontier workshop and creative technologists. During the festival, filmmakers will explore Miami from a slow and aural perspective. This exhibit stitches together their films in a room designed for relaxation, conversation and creative production.
